About the Author
George Bentley, DSc, MB, ChB, ChM, FRCS, FRCSE, F.Med.Sci, is Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics at University College London and Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. For many years he was Director and Professor of Orthopaedics at the University Department of Orthopaedics, Institute of Orthopaedics, University College London, and Director of Clinical Studies at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London. During his long career, Professor Bentley has received numerous honours and acted as visiting professor to major institutions in the United States and elsewhere. He is a Past President of EFORT, the British Orthopaedic Research Society and the British Orthopaedic Association, and he has been President of the Seddon Society since 1991. In 1994 he became a “Membre d’Honneur” of the Société Francaise de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologique. Professor Bentley has been European Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Arthroplasty since 2001 and has been a member of and advisor to the editorial boards of many other prestigious journals. In 2009 he became an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

helpful book on color use

I have some of Lindy Smith's previous books and I had this one preordered. I'm glad I did.

The book starts out with several pages of information on how colors work together, , how to select colors, and how to mix colors. There is also a chart showing Squires Kitchen, Wilton, and Sugarflair colors mixed with sugarpaste in several shades to illustrate the range of color you can achieve with each. I find this section very helpful. It can be hard to tell from the label on the bottle what color you will get.

The book then has 10 project cakes, each with detailed how-to instructions, along with a cookie or cupcake project with each. The projects are Cafe Couture, Creative Clock Tower, Peacock Panache, Birdhouse Chic, Colour Crescendo, Flamboyant Flora, Eastern Infusion, Perfume Perfection, Patchwork Owl, and Festive Fir. The projects all show how different colors work together, as well as where to find inspiration.

The last section has basic recipes that you can use to create the projects, as well as a list of suppliers.

This is a great book if you want more information on the use of color in cake decorating. I think it would be suitable both for someone with experience decorating cakes, but also for someone without much experience who wanted to try creating one of these cakes because a lot of instruction is provided as to how to create each cake.

creative color is adorable, artistic, and fun to look through

Being a home baker that has no artistic skills or training I purchased this book to learn how to choose colors that look good together. There are several very nice full color photos of decorated pastries, but there are also other color combination references. I could never think up these great combinations so this book is very instructional as well as inspirational. Great book. lots of color tips.

Good guide for color mixing.

While I'm not crazy about the actual cakes featured in the book, I can probably adapt them to my own style. But what this book has and I've never seen another book offer is a whole section that shows you how to mix colors. In other words, how to get a particular shade of pink or blue or green by combining x, y, and z colors. I sometimes end up getting brown messes when I, willy-nilly mix colored gum paste in ways that don't work well. Hopefully, those days are over (or at least reduced!)

Powerful and Stunning sequel

Wow. It is difficult to know where to start with this review. When Bared to You released, I loved the book, but I had questions as to whether Eva and Gideon would be able to turn their attraction into a lasting relationship. One thing was made clear, whatever would come for Gideon and Eva, it wouldn't come easy.

With eager anticipation and a healthy dose of curiosity I began Reflected in You. I read the whole book in one sitting. Reflected In You grabbed me, sucked me in, pulled me along an emotional roller-coaster, and left me in awe. Readers, if you sit down with this book hoping to walk away with that blissful, romantic feeling then this series may not be for you. Gideon and Eva struggle. Their relationship is plagued by their individual insecurities, communication breakdowns, and the demons of their pasts. However, the rawness of the emotions between Eva and Gideon is striking. One minute I was convinced that they would never be able to make it work. A few minutes later, I was crying and hoping that they could just keep it together.

Reflected to You is a book that stands out in it's genre. I am convinced that part of the reason this book is notable is because of the realism of the story. This book, this series, does not read like a fantasy romance. The issues the characters face feel real, the emotions they deal with and turn to feel real. The characters actions are understandable, in their own way. The attraction and chemistry between Gideon and Eva heats the pages. There is no question that this book is a smoking hot read with powerful, emotional, dominating sex. However, Sylvia Day makes it clear, there is much more to this mesmerizing story than sex. Gideon and Eva both have to deal with the ugliness that has plagued both of their lives and deal with harsh realities and nasty truths that they would rather stay hidden. The powerful, emotionally-charged sex between them can bring them together, but it could also push them apart.

Eva is very definitely high-maintenance. She needs security and independence and her trust is not easily gained. A stunning realization (for me) in this book was the realization that Gideon is so much like Eva. They both need something from the other person that is the hardest to give, trust and truth. There were places in the book where I could guess what was to come. Nevertheless, I was still floored when these things actually happened. There were places in this book where my own heart was breaking for the characters. Even with the gut-wrenching emotions, I was very pleased with how the characters began learn and grow. They both make plenty of mistakes, especially Gideon with his refusal to openly communicate. However, they do begin to learn to make concessions for each other and learn more about each other throughout Reflected in You. As I have said, nothing comes easily and there are always consequences.

Reflected in You got to me. I felt like I was on this journey with Gideon and Eva, my heart breaking when they were sad, rejoicing when they were happy, feeling frustration at the difficulties. It was not an easy book to read, but I loved every minute of it. Reflected is a book that will stick in my mind for a long time; I am sure to read it over and over in the future. The story is far from over though, they have much to work through and even more issues to uncover.

Gideon and Eva have an addictive relationship, they are addicted to each other, for better or for worse. As for me, I am addicted to their story, their journey through dramatic highs and lows. I am once again eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. Keep it coming Sylvia Day, I can't seem to get enough.

Better than Bared To You - Not at all like Fifty this time

Yes I read the whole book in less than half a day - I will not give away any secrets of the book in this review.
I couldn't put it down. It was so intense and made you want to turn the page to see what was going to happen to both Gideon and Eva next. At times my heart ached for both of them. I love how the author brought everything together in the end. And yes we get more of a glimpse into Gideon's problems. But more important we get a good feeling of the intensity of their relationship. I am very happy that the author wasn't replicating anything that resembled Fifty in this book. This was her own work and was very well written. Her attention to detail is much better than EL James. I have to say at the end of this book I think Gideon is hotter than Christian Grey....
Now this has me waiting for the third book until December.....

Toxic Secrets

In many ways, Gideon and Eva are unlikable characters. Gideon's issues with the need to control are creepy. Eva's desperation to hold onto Gideon takes away her respectablility. This erotic romance somehow turns into a bit of a mystery with Gideon's bizarre actions, mixed signals & toxic secrets.

Day does a fine job of wrapping up the events of this novel while leaving the readers wanting more of Gideon & Eva's rollercoaster relationship. In my opinion, this saves the book from a two star rating.

This book is a bad ripoff of the Wicked Witches of the Midwest Series by Amanda M. Lee. Even though the characters are a carbon copy of the originals, the main difference is this book isn't as well written and doesn't contain the humor or snark that the original. It's disappointing that an author has to ripoff another author instead of coming up with original characters.

Never ending typos

The content in this book really isn't bad at all. It covers all the topics one would encounter in an advanced undergrad or first year grad course in optics. But content is only as good as it is trustworthy. The reason why I hate this book is that it is completely frustrating to follow derivations when they are laced with typos. Add to that frustration the frustration of working problems that are badly worded and reference figures that are different than what is described in the problem and you have a recipe for long nights of banging your head against a table. You'd think that they would've found most of the errors after the 1st edition, but they haven't.

I've only used two other optics books before, Hecht and Pedrotti & Pedrotti. Hecht is a nice, basic reference, but is not very advanced. It doesn't give you many details of what it describes. P&P is a pretty good book that I hated when I used it just because it often tried to describe in words some things that would be much clearer with a drawing. P&P and Klein and Furtak are aimed at a similar level, but for my money, P&P is the better choice if for no other reason that it's accurate.

A good book ruined by errors

This book is about the only one at its level: Significantly more in-depth than the classic by Hecht, but significantly easier than the brilliant but arduous work by Born and Wolfe. As such, it fills a niche that needs to be filled. It nicely covers all the main features of linear, classical optics at a level that is very useful for an advanced undergrad or beginning grad student in physics or engineering. Unfortunately, it is plagued by unaddressed errors. These make it downright dangerous to use as a reference. Caution must be used before applying equations found in this work. Although I learned out of it more than a decade ago, I have seen no sign of a corrected edition or a list of errata. This makes it impossible for me to recommend this book unless one reads it with pen in hand and a keen interest in rederiving each equation while marking-up ones copy.
