It is a stunning and important collection, in part because the pieces were collected so early in the encounter between Europeans and Native Americans. However, space limitations have kept the collection in storage and away from scholars and the general public since the end of the Second World War.

This book brings the collection's treasures to an international audience. Organized by sections on the major cultural areas-including the Eastern Woodlands, Prairie and Plains, Southwest, California, Plateau and Great Basin, Northwest Coast, Subarctic, and Arctic-the incisive text is supplemented by color photographs of the objects and historical photographs. The book concludes with a chapter on contemporary Native American art and its role in bridging the distance between Native cultures and the dominant society.

This series is so cool! It seems like this volume is a big improvement on the last, and the last was great. Amazing art, and a really cool story. if you're an sc fan, check it out - you get to see nova and tosh when they were in the ghost academy together.... makes the game so much more interesting when you see this.

love the ghost academy series

I enjoyed this book as I gave him more in-depth analysis of how ghost actually perform in the field when they're not constrained to the 2d environments a video game. it's also a great way for them to introduce a character that are most interesting in the game, and gives a first-hand view of how quick the zerg reproduce. unfortunately it has some unanswered elements that may need to be addressed in another book or in the next installment of the game but overall it's a great read.

Frater IAO lucidly expounds the Thelemic tradition for the modern practitioner. Not only is this book well written, there is nothing like it on the market. After I studied the A∴A∴ Student Curriculum for a year, I can also see how Fresh Fever could help a student toward a synthesis of Crowley's corpus.
Besides, if this book doesn't make you laugh into your elfin-beard, I don't know what will.

I usually have my doubts about books, especially English books. Usually spewing out the same redundant stuff we've been taught since High School. But this one, man, what great book. They should have you dive into this stuff sooner than upper level classes, thoroughly enjoyed this.

Good, but a little pointless

Look, I bought this for class, so take my review with a a gain of salt. It is definitely cheaper than my school's book store and Amazon's rate on shipping kept it still cheaper, but it's just a useless book. Almost every "lesson" it teaches is, or should be, common sense. I mean, honestly, the book tells you not to plagiarise, make sure your figures are readable, and to be polite in company emails. I don't really think you need a book to tell you that, do you? Anyway, it ships well, arrives on time, and is of decent quality in terms of binding, paper, etc. Your not getting ripped off for materials, just maybe actual content is lacking.

The Meeting - This short story starts out making you actually think "what is happening" (especially if you haven't read Soul Meaning). I love how it shows the way Lucas and Reid meet and eventually work together, basically how it all began.

About the Author
Larry Tifft and Dennis Sullivan have been collaborating on writing and activist projects about justice since 1972. They have written numerous books and articles, together and separately, and in the past several years they have founded (and edited) the journal Contemporary Justice Review and the Justice Studies Association. Dr. Tifft teaches at Central Michigan University, and Dr. Sullivan is an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York at Albany.

A Revised Version of an Inferior Test Prep Guide

When REA (Research & Education Association) released its initial version of GRE LITERATURE IN ENGLISH in 1989, I bought it to prepare myself for that test. I was not particularly impressed with the organization or the lack of suggestion as to how to best make use of the material presented. Still, authors Beard, Kennedy, Liftig, and Malek included six full length exams with explanations. That was 230 x 6 or 1,380 test prep questions. I took the test and scored middlingly. Years later, I learned to "psyche" out the test and was surprised to discover a new and supposedly updated version. In this newer version, Malek cuts down the number of tests from 6 to 3. Nearly every one of the regurgitated questions is a reprint from nearly 15 years ago, thus ensuring that this text does not reflect any of the major changes in test content during that time. What Malek does try is to emulate the far more successful paradign put out by the Princeton Review's CRACKING THE GRE LITERATURE by codifying the vast array of western literature: genres, timelines, book and author lists, literary terms, schools of literary criticism, etc. The problem is that Malek did not do half as thorough a job as the Princeton Review did. Malek does little more than to use an overly broad brush to skim a distressingly long list of required readings without giving any hint as how to best do that. True, neither did the Princeton Review, but at least the latter presented a methodology that was reasonable. This is not to say that Malek's updated text is useless. Anything, no matter how scant, that prepares you for a mind-numbing test has its uses, but if you insist on using Malek, you might prefer to go to the library to find the 1989 version that gives more preparation than its more recent cousin. By the way, Malek's test questions themselves: many of them are so outlandish that one is amazed that he thinks ETS will ask such trivia.

The Worst Test Prep for the GRE

I'm with many of the other reviewers: stick with the Princeton Review's test prep, and the Norton Anthologies. This book is trash. I'm infuriated that it's considered a valid study guide and continues to be published. Here's a sample practice test question:

Very comprehensive!

This is a great book! The review is substantial and there are 3 practice tests. While I understand that many previous reviewers are not happy with REA removing 3 practice tests from the first edition (which had a total of 6), they also replaced them with review chapters. The first edition was only a book of practice tests. I have sat for the actual test once already and I think the questions are exactly the types that are asked. The review chapters won't be enough to review, but no one book ever will be. You will have to pull out all of your Norton Anthologies and read for months. And I seriously recommend a course in literary theory to anyone who is still enrolled in school. There's no way around it. This test is getting harder. Just try one practice test before reviewing all that much and you will see what I'm talking about.

another great book, worth the wait!

Gotta love Wren and his struggle to stay safe in his own house and his now mind.

Good storyline with the new slave disrupting their quiet life. Jere is right again!

I need more!

3.5 Risky stars!! Great continuation.... I'm intrigued

Jere and Wren are forging on in their relationship, even though Jere never wanted or needed a slave. But nevertheless, they are moving through it. So when Jere decides to buy a new slave, it throws their relationship up in the air. So now Jere has to save his relationship and the new slave he's acquired... can he do it??

Book two is just as unique and twisted as the first. I will say I think this one is my favorite of the series so far. I like the back and forth relationship between Jere and Wren, while it is tumultuous, it is highly entertaining and emotional. Again there are triggers in this book... just a warning.... I can't wait to see what's coming in the next book!!!

About the Author
After receiving my PhD from the University of Kansas in 1977, I came to Colorado to work as a faculty member at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I have been ever since. I am currently a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and I teach courses in general biology, animal behavior, insect biology, and tropical biology. My research program focuses on the behavior and ecology of social insects, and I have worked on ants, bees, and wasps. I have studied the nestmate recognition, the genetics of colony defense, the behavior of defensive bees, and communication during colony defense. I was Executive Editor of Animal Behaviour from 2006-2009.

As an undergraduate, I was inspired by parasitologist Clark P. Read to think about the ecology and evolution of parasites in new ways. I was especially excited to learn that parasites affected animal behavior, another favorite subject area. Most biologists outside the world of parasitology were not interested in parasites; they were relegated to a nether world someplace between the biology of free-living organisms and medicine. After peregrination through more than one graduate program, I completed my PhD studying parasites and behavior at the University of New Mexico. I did postdoctoral work on parasite community ecology with Dan Simberloff at Florida State University, and then accepted a faculty position at Colorado State University, where I have remained since 1983. I am currently a Professor in the Department of Biology where I teach courses in invertebrate zoology, animal behavior, and history of medicine. I study a variety of aspects of parasite ecology and host behavior ranging from behavioral fever and transmission behavior to the ecology of introduced parasite species.
